Tanah Lot, perhaps Bali’s most visited attraction, has truly earned the name ‘iconic’. Tanah Lot at sunset is made for romance seekers. Imagine the sun slowly sinking into the ocean, projecting a glorious kaleidoscope of colour across the sky, as Tanah Lot fades into silhouette.
So our Tanah Lot tour is usually taken for a half day, timed for sunset. Tanah Lot is, however, well worth a tour at any time of day, and if you’d like to explore its extensive walking trails and markets, or perhaps combine it with one of many nearby active adventures, a full day Tanah Lot tour might suit you better.

VISIT…Taman Ayun on your way to Tanah Lot, a huge state temple surrounded by a moat and set in gorgeous landscaped gardens. Behind the elegant moat lies an outer courtyard, featuring expansive manicured lawns, sculptured hedges and tropical plants, and then an inner courtyard with a multitude of multi-tiered shrines.
HOLD…on to your belongings – the moneys at the Alas Kedaton Monkey Forest are notorious thieves! But also very funny and this 12,000 hectare swath of jungle makes for a refreshing and fun stop on a Tanah Lot tour. The Dalem Kahyangan Kedaton Temple in the forest is one Bali’s more important and attractive temples, and also very ancient, with pre-historic relics found here.
EXPLORE..Tanah Lot. We don’t recommend swimming here; the currents are dangerous and we caution you against standing on the rocks the waves break over – Bali has freak waves too! But you can certainly dip a toe (or maybe a little more!) to cool off after wandering along the beach or following the walking trails around the cliffs.
If you visit Tanah Lot at high tide, you’ll see how it got its name as, seemingly cut off from the mainland, it appears to be a ‘floating temple in the ocean’. Or you might catch the spectacle of one of the many elaborate ceremonies in procession to the rock, which take place regularly at Tanah Lot.
SHOP…in the extensive market complex at Tanah Lot, where you’ll find many of the same wares available in Kuta, often at cheaper prices, as well as a smattering of more upmarket stores.
EXPERIENCE…the romance and splendour of Tanah Lot at sunset. If you want to amp up the romance, we’ll make time on your Tanah Lot tour for you to dine at a restaurant here at sunset.
CREATE…your perfect day. We can customise this Tanah Lot to suit your interests and preferred pace.
You might like to first check out the Central, West and North Bali regions on our things to do in Bali page. You’ll find heaps more information and ideas to help you decide what you’d like to see and do as a Tanah Lot tour.
The ‘Related Tours’ listed on this page are suggested tours which are easily combined with a Tanah Lot tour (each are also available as stand alone half day tours).
For instance, you might like to combine a half day Tanah Lot tour with white water rafting, an elephant encounter, or horse riding on the beach at Tanah Lot. Or maybe just a cruisy morning in Ubud doing your own thing before heading to Tanah Lot for sunset is more up your alley. The possibilities are endless!
